Our own farm, an hour north. Not everything downstairs comes off it, and we will always tell you which is which. What does come off it, we know from seed to jar.
Growing in a climate that fights you
Northern Thailand gives you light for free. Long season, strong sun, the kind of conditions growers in colder places spend a fortune replicating. Then the wet season arrives in June and hands you eighty-five percent humidity for four months, and suddenly the whole job is mould.
That is the actual challenge here and anyone telling you otherwise has not farmed through a Chiang Mai August. Airflow, dehumidification, spacing plants further apart than the yield charts say you should. You lose a bit of density and you keep the crop. Fair trade.
Why good cannabis is hard to grow here
For four months a year the air in Chiang Mai is wet enough to rot a flower from the inside. Everything about how we grow, dry and store is a response to this one graph.
The cure is the whole thing
Most of what separates good cannabis from forgettable cannabis happens after the plant comes down, and most of it is patience. Dry slow, in the dark, with the temperature held steady. Then cure slower than feels necessary.
The temptation when the shelf looks thin is to pull something early and get it out front. We have done it. It is always a mistake and you can taste it. So now we run the shelf a little emptier sometimes and let the jars finish.
What we run
Genetics come mostly out of our own seed library, which is Sweettooth Seeds, the same operation run by the same company. We keep a rotation going rather than chasing whatever is fashionable, because a strain you have grown twenty times in this specific climate will beat an exciting new cut you are still learning.
Thai licensing rules require controlled herbs to come from cultivation certified to good agricultural standards, which is one of the conditions on our licence. Growing our own is the simplest way to know that is true.
What we do not grow
Plenty of the shelf is not ours, and we are straightforward about that. Chiang Mai has a lot of good small growers and we would rather buy from the best of them than pretend one farm can cover a whole shop. The people we buy from are people we know, whose rooms we have stood in, and every batch gets tasted here before it goes out.
So when you ask where something came from, sometimes the answer is this farm and sometimes it is a name up the valley. Either way there is an answer, which is the part that matters.

Where is Laddaland Farm?
Laddaland Farm is roughly an hour north of Chiang Mai city and is operated by the same company as The Spot dispensary, Siam Bloom Co., Ltd.
Is cannabis grown in Thailand good quality?
It can be. Northern Thailand has strong natural light and a long growing season, but high humidity in the wet season makes mould the main risk. Quality comes down to whether the grower controls the environment and cures slowly rather than rushing to shelf.
Does The Spot grow its own cannabis?
Partly. Some of what The Spot carries is grown at Laddaland Farm, run by the same company an hour north of Chiang Mai. The rest is bought directly from small growers around Chiang Mai. Thai licensing rules require that controlled herbs come only from cultivation certified to good agricultural standards, whoever grew them.
What is the cannabis growing season in northern Thailand?
Outdoor growing in northern Thailand runs best through the cool dry season from roughly November to February. The wet season from June to October brings humidity that makes mould the dominant risk, which is why most serious growing there happens indoors or under cover.
