What it is

Two floors of the building are Safehouse, and that is also how many units there are. One floor each. You are not in a room off a corridor with somebody through the wall, you have the lot: bedroom, a kitchen with a living area in front of it, a bathroom with a real tub and the toilet in its own dry area, and a balcony over the soi.

It is not a resort and we are not pretending otherwise. It is clean, the air conditioning works, the wifi is fibre, and you are standing in the best-located soi in Chiang Mai when you walk out the door.

What you get

    The whole floor

    Not a room in a corridor. There are two units in the building and each one is an entire floor, so nobody is on the other side of your wall.

    Your own kitchen

    Hob, fridge, kettle, sink and a washing machine, with a living area in front of it. Long stays do not have to eat out twice a day.

    Bathtub, and a dry toilet

    An actual tub, and the toilet sits in its own dry area rather than getting soaked every time somebody showers.

    A desk you can work at

    Full-size desk, office chair, and fibre wifi. Half the people who stay here are working.

    Balcony over the soi

    Looks out across the rooftops. Best twenty minutes of the day is about six in the evening.

    Maya and One Nimman five minutes on foot. You will not need a scooter unless you want one.

Getting around from here

  • Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center and One Nimman, five minutes on foot
  • Old City and Tha Phae Gate, ten to fifteen minutes by songthaew
  • Chiang Mai University, about ten minutes
  • Doi Suthep, roughly half an hour on a scooter
  • Chiang Mai airport, fifteen to twenty minutes by car

Book straight through Sway and coffee upstairs is on us for the whole stay, one a day per guest. Same price as the listing sites, we just keep the commission and give you something for it instead.

One thing worth saying plainly

There is a licensed cannabis dispensary on the ground floor of this building and a customer lounge on the second. Staying here has nothing to do with either, nobody will mention it to you, and the rooftop coffee shop is open to everyone. We would rather you knew before you booked than after.

Where is Safehouse in Chiang Mai?

Safehouse occupies the third and fourth floors of 36 Nimmana Haeminda Road, Lane 11, Suthep, Mueang Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai 50200, on Nimman Soi 11 in the Nimmanhaemin district. Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center and One Nimman are about five minutes on foot, and the Old City is ten to fifteen minutes by songthaew.

What is in a Safehouse apartment?

Each unit is a whole floor to itself: a bedroom with a double bed, a living area, a kitchen with a hob, fridge, kettle and washing machine, a bathroom with a bathtub and a separate dry area for the toilet, a balcony, a full-size desk and office chair, a smart TV and air conditioning.

Does Safehouse have dorm beds or shared rooms?

No. There are two units and each one is an entire floor of the building, private to one booking. Nothing is shared and there are no dorm or hostel beds.

How do I book Safehouse?

Is Safehouse above a cannabis dispensary?

Yes. The Spot, a licensed cannabis dispensary, is on the ground floor of the same building, with a customer lounge on the second. Staying at Safehouse has nothing to do with buying cannabis and there is no requirement to visit either. The rooftop coffee shop, Sway CNX, is open to everyone.

Is Safehouse good for long stays and remote work?

It is set up for it. Every apartment has a full-size desk and chair, fibre wifi, a kitchen and a washing machine, which is what separates a month-long stay from a hotel room. Nimman is the district most remote workers in Chiang Mai choose.
